DORRIT DENIED AT
WOODHOUSE HOME
L. E. Woodhouse Instructs Gardner to
Keep Her Out-Told Physician She
Was Not Member of Family.
BURLINGTON,
Nov. 17.-Two interesting bits of testimony came out yesterday at the trial of the $1,000,000 alienation suit brought
by Dorrit Stevens
Woodhouse against her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo E. Woodhouse. One of these was furnished by
Joseph Poirier, formerly a gardener on
the Woodhouse estate, who testified that
Lorenzo E. Woodhouse told him to tell
Dorrit Woodhouse the next time she
called that she wasn't wanted there and
for her to keep out.
In the deposition of Dr. Henry B.
Slocum, who was in charge of Douglas
Woodhouse at the time he was ill with
typhoid fever in the hospital at Long
Branch, N. J., Mr. Slocum testified that
Lorenzo Woodhouse told him that he
(Lorenzo) did not recognize his son's
wife as a member of the family.
Lorenzo E. Woodhouse was recalled
once more by Attorney Austin for the
plaintiff and was questioned regarding
his wealth. It was brought out that, in
addition to the $50,000 in his special ac-
count at the National bank in this city,
Mr. Woodhouse owns about $500,000 in
securities and cash in other banks.
Other property which Mr. Woodhouse
testified he owned included his home in
this city, which he said was listed at
$35,000, an island in Lake Champlain
the value of which he said was $2,500.
property on Long Island valued by him
at $45,000, and one improved lot in
Florida for which he said he paid $200,-
000, though it is not worth that amount,
he thought.
Mr. Poirier testified that in October,
1915, when he was in the employ of
Lorenzo E. Woodhouse, Dorrit Wood-
house had been in the garden and was
just going away. Lorenzo came along
and asked the witness who that woman
was. Mr. Poirier replied that it was
Douglas's wife.
"The next time she comes in here, you
tell her she isn't wanted here; to keep
out," was the order which Lorenzo gave,
according to the witness. Mr. Poirier
testified that he told Lorenzo Woodhouse
that Lorenzo could tell Macdonald, the
coachman, to "do his dirty work."
Dr. Slocum's deposition said that
Lorenzo Woodhouse visited his son at
the hospital, and it was noticeable that
the father did not recognize his son's
wife. Later, in conversation with Dr.
Slocum, the witness testified, Douglas's
father said: "I suppose you think it
strange the way I treat Mrs. Wood-
house, but I do not recognize her as one
of the family."
