As Holy Week begins, we remember the comforting words of Our
Blessed Lord, spoken from the Cross to the Penitent Thief: "This day
thou shalt be with me in Paradise." The other day we received a piti-
ful letter from 14 Ursuline Sisters and it was postmarked "Paradise"
But it was Paradise, Eritrea, and from their account it would not be
too much like Paradise, unless the Sisters make it so by the sunshine
of God's mercy to the wretchedly poor people around them.
"We have been struggling along here, almost despairing of living to
the next day. We have a little orphanage and the poor people come
to us for medicines. Often the mothers present us with a lifeless
baby, hoping we can do something for a child that could not be fed for
want of means. We do beg you, in the sweet name of Jesus, to send us
help before we all succumb to this awful misery."
The Sisters ask relatively little-$450 and your hearts will be
moved to add dollar to dollar until we can reach this sum. Then we
shall give all the money sent us by the BASILIANS, our School Club,
this month. Your dollar monthly makes you a member. Please make
Paradise just that.
BROTHER SEVERIN ZEMARIAM is the first native Ethiopian ever
to join the Christian Brothers and within a year he hopes to work in
his native land. He needs $150 for this last year of his novitiate. Can
you adopt him and boast that you have made materially possible
famous first in all Church history?
IF YOU CANNOT GIVE $200 TO BUILD A HOUSE OF GOD IN
ONE OF OUR MISSION LANDS, YOU DO MUCH BY YOUR MITE
TO THE CHAPEL-OF-THE-MONTH CLUB OR BY GIVING A SACRED
ARTICLE TO A CHAPEL.
