Full Text

A Historic House.—Gustavus A. Colburn, Esq., of Pittston, lives in the same house which was occupied by his grandfather when General Arnold's expedition went up the Kennebec, and the corner closet or buffet still stands just as it did when General Arnold and his officers took their nippers out of the well-stocked bottles therein. The parlor and chamber are nearly as they were then. Mr. Colburn's grandfather made the batteaux for Arnold's expedition, near this house, but it is said he never got his pay for the job. The house, of course, has been greatly modernized, but is still one of the most interesting objects of antiquity on the Kennebec.
