REPAIR BILLS
TOTAL HIGH ON
FEDERAL BLDG.

When the war is over there will be bigger sidewalks to bother the snow shovelers in front of the Federal Building.

George Gullufsen, Federal Building Custodian, declared widening of the sidewalk on the front entrance side of the building is to be included in postwar building plans.

Three feet will be added to the present sidewalk, on the inside of the walk. This project, along with improvement of the parking area in the rear of the building and general painting and replastering will bring repairs bills to a total of "somewhere around $50,000 or $60,000," Gullufsen said.

Meanwhile, Federal office occupants dubiously eye falling plaster dirty walls and cracked windows.

"We've got no money to put in new windows unless they bust 'em clear out," Gullufsen said, defining the Post Office Department's wartime shoestring economy policy.

Gullufsen is in shirtsleeves and busy with his crew preparing Senate and House quarters for the coming legislative session now only two weeks away.

The increase in legislative membership will be taken care of by doubling up in the House and removal of one row of seats from each gallery in the Senate.

Total emergency appropriation for the job was $1,500 and as Gullufsen put it, wiping the perspiration from his brow and temporarily laying down his saw, "no contractors were interested."
