Full Text

A meeting of the County Central Committee of Sebastian County has been called for Saturday, January 18, whereupon the Fort Smith Democrat truly remarks that "this seems to be rather early action, but an early meeting of the committee does not necessarily imply early primaries. It strikes us that primaries should be set in point of time for the convenience of the voting classes, rather than for the interests of candidates. We believe the summer is preferable to the winter in which to hold primary elections."

And the Democrat is right. The people of Arkansas do not want early primaries or a long campaign this year. Early primaries are useless and always the cause of a long campaign which is demoralizing to business and the people and work great hardships on aspirants to office. Early primaries are usually resorted to to "boost" the prospects of some candidate for office who imagines that in them he can gain some temporary advantage. It is entirely too early to talk politics and the shorter the campaign this year, State and National, the better.
