An invitation to Niland to join the Associated Chambers of Commerce, a resolution of appreciation to the Yuma Chamber for its recent stand on the Boulder Dam bill and discussions on numerous topics of importance marked the meeting of the associated chambers at the Westmorland school house last night. The meeting followed a gathering of the executive board of the association.
A motion was entered by R. Y. Watson, president of the El Centro chamber, suggesting that an invitation be sent the Niland chamber to join the association. It was carried unanimously.
The chambers then passed a resolution presented by J. L. Travers to be forwarded to the Yuma Chamber expressing appreciation for its recent stand in endorsing the Boulder Dam bill despite efforts of Arizona politicians to have the resolution of endorsement rescinded.
R. P. Moore then made a report on the trip made to Los Angeles by a committee seeking to avoid the closing of the Westmorland and Calipatria branches of the Los Angeles First National bank. He reported that his committee had taken the matter up at the meeting of the stockholders, requesting them to make a thorough investigation before taking such action. He said that the committee was assured that a 90-day survey was to be made before the branch banks should be closed, if at all. The valley branches are only two of a number of branch banks which the banking firm is contemplating closing.
Bankers to Make Trip
L. J. Thomas in a written report on publicity activities asked that the associated chamber and each of its district organizations get out form letters to be sent about the country.
Vern De Tar, farm advisor, speaking in behalf of the extension service of California University said that plans have been made for a tour of the valley by bankers and business men on February 8 and invited the association to join them on the trip. A resolution was then presented by Sam Rowe, president of the Westmorland chamber that the chambers join the tour and it was passed.
M. D. Witter gave a short talk relative to the proposed improvement of the road between the valley and Blythe and a lengthy discussion relative to its effect on the valley followed.
General discussions were then held on the Mexican immigration legislation pending in Washington, D. C. and on the planned outing Monday in connection with the arrival in the valley of delegates to the Western Fruit Jobbers convention.
