I hear, from good authority, that on Sunday last, betwixt Slab town and the Black Horse, in the Jerseys, a party of our army, under the command of col. Griffin, had a skirmish with the Hessians, and that the enemy were forced to retreat with precipitation, having some killed, and leaving behind them many knapsacks and other necessaries, amongst which was a hat shot through the crown; but the next morning, the enemy advancing with a considerable reinforcement, supposed to be about 2000 men, with seven or eight field pieces, our little army was obliged to retreat (which they performed with great regularity) to prevent their being outflanked by superior numbers; and in the evening they had another skirmish at Mount Holly, in which the enemy, as an intelligent person informs, had several killed and wounded. In both skirmishes, our people had only two killed, and seven or eight wounded. Our army is at Moore's town, and that of the enemy is at Mount Holly.
