TOMMY TO SAMMY.
Hendricks Condoling with Tilden,

New York, Nov. 25.—The Tribune
says that in his interview with Gov.
Tilden, last evening, Gov. Hendricks
said that public sentiment in the east-
tern states in regard to the election was
so strong that he was
impelled to
come east to ascertain the condition of
public feeling here. He expressed his
admiration of the conduct of the South-
tern Democrats, who, without the least
manifestation of turbulence, had ap-
pealed everywhere to the courts, and
was glad both in the west and on his
journey hitherward to notice the dis-
position of all parties to have matters
amicably and lawfully settled. He
stated that he is so perfectly convinced
that the feeling of honest men through-
out the country is so general that
Tilden has been elected, and the sense
of justice of the country, irrespective
of party, is so strong, that the corrupt
canvassing boards of the South won't
dare to set public opinion at defiance,
and if they do make the attempt, they
will fail in their purpose.

Gov. Tilden fully concurs in all of
Gov. Hendricks' remarks, and there
appeared to be perfect accord of ideas
in regard to the questions of honor.
While there seemed to be a lack of con-
fidence in the doings of the returning
boards in the South, no disposition was
manifested on the part of either Tilden
or Hendricks to enter upon a decided
plan of action.
