Event Details
The trial of Henry B. Kimbrough, a young man from Columbus, Georgia, charged with robbing the post office of a package of money containing six thousand dollars in notes of the Bank of Cheraw, in South Carolina, took place at Savannah on the 27th instant. The commission of the crime was not disputed, as the prisoner, immediately on his arrest, confessed his guilt, and delivered to the post office agent the amount which he took, with the exception of a few hundred dollars, afterwards refunded by his friends. The defence of insanity was raised, and witnesses were produced to substantiate the ground that the prisoner's mind had been previously impaired.
