Twelve Acres of Land Near Wilmington to Be
the Site of an up-to-date Hospital.
Twelve acres of land, half woodland
and half open land, in Brandywine
Hundred near the Blue Ball, and about
three miles from Washington bridge,
is to be the site of the proposed open
air tuberculosis hospital, which has
been planned by the Delaware Anti-
Tuberculosis Society. The land is the
property of the duPont Powder Co.,
but the society has been informed that
it can have free use of the land and
Victor duPont, Jr., has notified the
society that he will place a civil engi-
neer at the disposal of the proper com-
mittee to lay out the tracts as desired.
The use of the land was secured
through the instrumentality of Alfred
I. duPont, and the society was notified
Thursday at a conference with the of-
ficers of the Associated Charities. It is
proposed to raise $10,000, which will
be required to start the work and an
effort will be made to secure subscrip-
tions to the fund as soon as practicable.
Dr. J. J. Black of New Castle, who
was largely responsible for the origin-
ation of the Anti-Tuberculosis Society,
has inspected the tract and say it is
the finest in Delaware for a sanitarium,
being high and isolated. Dr. A Robin,
Wilmington city bacteriologist, who is
deeply interested in the sanitarium plan
thinks the site will be an ideal one,
and he believes great results will be
accomplished.
