PAWN BROKER SHOT AND ROBBED

Pacific News Service.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 1.—A rich pawnbroker was shot last night about midnight in his place of business. The robber obtained twenty thousand dollars in cash and a large quantity of gems and successfully escaped.

Police were notified by neighbors of the shot and the man who ran away. The pawnbroker had strength enough left only to say that a masked man shot him and that he had $20,000 in the safe. The police found the safe rifled of all money and the most valuable jewels except a casket of diamonds which had been overlooked.
