AT LAST!
The General Assembly of thirty members is now a thing of the past.
International light. The last vestige of legislative power under the old Constitution was wiped out by final adjournment, greatly to the satisfaction of the taxpayers, who had come to believe that there would be no such thing as adjournment until the heat of Summer drove the members from the State House.
This adjourned session has been pretty much of a farce. Both time and money have been wasted by incompetency, selfishness and blundering.
But for the self-seeking cupidity of certain men, nearly all of the work which has been done during the past four or five months could have been accomplished during the recess and acted upon and disposed of in a few weeks.
Taking the time of session into consideration the work accomplished is not satisfactory. Much which should have been done has been left untouched or but completed. Still, the people can worry along until next Winter, when a new Legislature, composed of new men, elected under new conditions and placed in a position of stricter accountability to their constituents, will pick up the threads of legislation and do something which is lasting and beneficial.
