LITTLE BEAR, GRANDCHILD
OF ST. LOUIS FOUNDER

Matt Duhr Says:

'Aunt Sophie Chauteau Little Bear, aged about 80, lives at the foot of Wooster mountains, between Pawhuska and Hominy. She is a grand-daughter of Pierre Chouteau one of the founders of St. Louis. She lived with her French relatives in St. Louis until her seventeenth year, when she concluded to adorn herself with blankets and wear moccasins, and live in a wigwam. She must have been a great beauty when young, because even now she is the most beautiful old lady of the Osage tribe.'
