Tomorrow—Teachers
for Philippines.
SANTA CRUZ, Luzon, P. I., June 22
—In the course of an interview with a
representative of the Associated Press,
General Cailles, the insurgent commander,
whose surrender is promised
for Monday, and who is now established
in the former American headquarters
at Pagsanjan, said he was convinced
of the wisdom of the surrender and
is satisfied of the liberal intentions of
the American authorities.
Colonel Caballes, with 120 of General
Cailles' command, fled to the mountains
this morning, being frightened by
the rumor that Geronimo and others
were to be hanged. Cailles sent a detachment
in pursuit of them and avers
that they will return tomorrow. He
asserts that he will bring more than
600 rifles to Santa Cruz on Monday, with
ten men for every rifle.
