LOCAL MATTERS

Error.—The date of the Herald on first page appears September 2nd instead of Sept. 1st.

Court.—The Grant Circuit Court, fall term, is to commence on Monday, September 14.

See notice of a contract to let for building a church at the Hurricane corners.

The Lancaster Grant and Crawford club is to meet again on Friday evening of this week.

Messrs. Nathan & Sons have ordered their fall supplies. Next week Lancaster will be filled with new goods.

Two Hundred Men Wanted.—On the Platteville and Calamine R. R.—See advt. The grading work on this road is to be done through to Platteville this fall.

Messrs. A. & T. A. Burr have enlarged the dimensions of their store room to double its former size and are soon to fill it with merchandise from New York.

Give Notice.—Persons in the country wanting the services of Drs. Newell & Tucker, resident dentists, Lancaster, are requested to give them at least ten days' notice.

Auction Sale,—C. H. Polly, at Patch Grove, is to make public sale, Sept. 30, of his stock and personal effects, including much valuable property. For items and terms see advt.

Messrs. Howe & Baxter are to receive next week their fall supplies of merchandise from Chicago. They have purchased largely of cloths from the Baraboo mills, said to be the best in market.

Farm for Sale.—J. A. Brown offers for sale an improved farm, situated in Clifton, 160 acres, half in cultivation, good dwelling, &c., all at $20 per acre, half on time, the land first quality. See advt.

Hollenback Farm for Sale.—A farm situated two miles west of Fairplay and five from Dunleith, 120 acres, is to be sold at auction, Sept. 15. See advertisement for description. The property is well improved.

Another Farm for Sale.—The George Tuffley farm, near Boscobel, is for sale, with improvements, hop yards, &c. Probably a first class property. See advt. The property must be sold and therefore can be had cheap.

Contract Let.—The contract for building a new school house in Lancaster, to replace the one demolished by the storm in July, was let to John Thornton, we believe at about $1,500, he to have the foundation walls and rubbish of old building valued at $2500.

Beats Them All.—The Boston & Ames Bed Spring. Messrs. Trine & Struble agents for these western counties of Wisconsin, are selling a Bed Spring at only $3.00 which beats all the kinds offered for comfort, last and cheapness. Mr. Struble is selling these Springs.

Auction Sale at Cassville.—C. L. LaGrave, being about to remove to Faribault, Minn., is to sell at public auction all his personal property, including farm stock, store goods, house stuffs, &c. The sale is to take place on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 10 and 11, and will be the most extensive transfer of property ever known in Grant County. See advt.

Wonderful.—The most readable book on the events of the war which we have yet seen is "A Picture of the Desolated States and the work of Restoration," by Trowbridge. It is made up almost exclusively of conversations and dialogues between the writer and the Southern blacks and whites. It is indeed a wonderful book. See general notice in the Herald.
