AN ARRIVAL FROM FRANCE.

SINCE our last, the brig Halcyon, has arrived here from Bordeaux. To the 17th of May we have previously received accounts from our correspondents in Paris by other papers or regular conveyances. The papers of the Republic contain but not a line of observation thereon, nor a syllable of political speculation.

The will of the Chief Consul appears to be the supreme law; it is acquiesced in with the utmost devotion.

The government is well administered and from him justice is dispensed promptly and without delay or gainsaying. He exercises the general command and attention. Wherever he appears on public occasions; and his suite is as splendid as a King's. He resides principally at his palace at Malmaison; but occasionally repairs to Paris to review the troops, to visit the public institutions and to dispense honorary rewards. Very little mention is made of the other departments of the government in the Paris papers. Robberies, in the interior departments, continue to be numerous; but the government were taking the most efficient measures to put an end to them.
