SCHOOL CHILDREN NEED
SECLUSION FOR STUDY.

"A penny for your thoughts."
But while the penny is given and received, the thought has ceased. The question is, Do such interruptions pay? No if your thought is worth anything.

Dean Virginia Corbett of the Colorado Agricultural College reports an investigation of conditions for home study made by a North Carolina high school which reveals a close connection between interrupted study hours and failure in work. The report covered thirty students, and it was found that nine studied in a quiet room at home; twenty-one studied in the room with the family; all had company in their room at least two nights a week, and all spent two or three nights a week at the moving picture shows.

The school record showed of the same thirty students four failed in three subjects, four failed in two subjects, ten failed in one subject, and ten made an average of C, or a low passing grade.

The conclusion drawn was that there is a close connection between uninterrupted and regular study hours and success in student work. Applicants are crowding institutions of higher and secondary education, but too many are indifferent as to conditions which govern the study hour.

Here is the chance for the home to be a strong ally of the school by giving students conditions under which to make regular study possible.
