Full Text

The Vanites are wonderfully zealous for the "Supremacy of the Laws," of late.—Under what law did one Andrew Jackson remove the deposites, by getting rid of two Secretaries who refused to do his bidding? Under what law was the Treasury Circular issued, within less than ten days after the Senate refused to authorize it? Under what law did he remove honest men from office, and dodge the constitutional power of the Senate, in order to put rogues in? And under what law has the present administration determined to deposite the revenue in non-specie paying banks? There was a law, it is said, that the kings of Persia might do what they pleased. We can account for the course of Doctor Jackson and Co. only upon the supposition that the Persian maxim has been interpolated into the statute books of America. Is it so?
