Cause
Of $2000 Blaze
On Hawkins Street

Damage estimated at $2,000 was caused by a fire which partially destroyed the third floor and roof of a house at 44 East Hawkins St. last week.

No one was injured.

Firemen who answered the alarm at 8:49 a. m. battled with the blaze for more than an hour with three hose lines.

Fire Marshal Eugene Legge said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cummings and their three children, who were temporarily occupying the third floor, fled to the street when the fire broke out. At present the family is living at the American Legion headquarters on Bishop Street.

The Cummings were burned out completely and unable to find other living quarters.

The second floor occupant was Milton Washington and the first floor was occupied by Mrs. Lucy Elbert.

Both were able to return to the building.
