On the 10th Instant, about 9 o'Clock in the Evening, Mr. Edward Cambridge, of Lynn, returning home from this Town, on horse-back, just on this side the Old Sluice, (so called) 5 or 6 Miles from hence, was attacked by a Highway Robber, who seized the Horse's Bridle close to his Mouth, and accosted Mr. Cambridge thus--- Damn you, deliver your Money---Mr. Cambridge said, I have no Money.---The Robber then said, Damn you, I'll have your Money or your Life. The Instant of his uttering these last Words the Horse suddenly inclined backward, and very providentially prevented the Contents of a loaded Pistol from entering Mr. Cambridge's Body, which he felt pass by his Breast, and which was discharged by the Highwayman immediately on speaking his Words last mentioned. The firing off the Pistol occasioned the Horse to start forward with such Force as to disengage the Bridle from the Villain's Hand, when Mr. Cambridge rode off, and happily got clear. --The Robber had on a Dutch woolen Cap, a short dark coloured Jacket, and long Trowsers.
