May Queen Is Marsha Johnson For Festivities
As a result of an election to determine who would be May Queen, little Marsha Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Francisco Johnson, 716 Olivia Street, placed first and served as May Queen for the festivities conducted in the gymnatrium of Douglass School Friday, May 6.
The contest is an annual affair at the school and is conducted on a democratic basis. Students must be registered to vote, the candidates have campaign managers and also platforms.
The winner may well consider herself most popular as the selection is made strictly on a popularity basis with the votes being most scrutinizingly counted.
Following in a list of the candidates and the votes obtained by each: Marsha Johnson—150; Valerie Burgoby, 140; Romaine Saunders, 105; Lunette Thompson, 99; Crystal Sutton, 97, and Sharon Lopez 64.
The program was highly accepted by the patrons and friends as evidenced by their attendance.
