FIVE COONS.
Were Captured in One Night by Bristol Hunters.
The Bristol Press says:
The best
string of coons that has been brought into town in many a day was that shown in W. G. Plumb's market Wednesday. There were five of them. The largest was a beauty, and weighed twenty pounds. They were caught in a neighboring town. Deputy Sheriff Morse was one of the party of hunters, and it is supposed he served warrants on them. At any rate, he brought them back with him. It was a great night's work. The largest one was captured in an immense oak tree that grew in an almost inaccessible ledge of rocks. One of the party climbed the tree, and instead of the coon, found a swarm of bees that immediately covered his bare arms, but he kept cool and quiet, and was only slightly stung. Others of the party under the tree were treated to a bee shower and consequent stings. But a little thing like that did not turn their attention from the coon, which was soon located and brought down.
