On Monday afternoon the editor of the Freeman's Journal was arrested by virtue of a warrant under the hand and seal of Matthew Lawler, mayor of this city, on the oath of Thomas P. Kane, charging him with publishing a malicious, false, and scandalous libel against his character and reputation, in the Journal of Monday May 27th, 1805 - The editor accordingly entered into a recognizance of 500 dolls. with two sureties in 250 dolls. each, to appear at the next mayor's court, (June 27th) to keep the peace & be of good behavior during the said time, &c. &c.
