County Board To Open Beach Bids At Meet Tonight

Monroe County Commission at its meeting tonight in the Court House will open bids for the construction of a beach at West Martello Tower. It was reported today by Chairman Frank Bentley.

More than a month ago bids were opened for the beach and were found to be too high. Since that time R. D. Spalding and Associates, engineers, have revised the plans and the new bids are expected to be within the amount of money the county has on hand, about $180,000.

Originally, $250,000 in bonds were sold. West Martello Tower was bought from the WAA for $28,000, $15,000 was set aside from the fund for construction of a beach for colored people and the preparations of the plans cost considerable.
