Shrinking World
Flight by three Russian aviators over the top of the world offers further proof that this globe on which we live is shrinking rapidly. It is as large as ever when measured in miles but change the measurement to minutes and hours and it is shriveling like a grape in the sun.
If man is the intelligent animal he claims to be he should be making changes in his manner of living AND IN HIS MANNER OF THINKING to meet this new situation.
Medical men now greet the China Clipper when it arrives on these shores and go over it carefully. They are afraid the germs of BUBONIC PLAGUE and other Asiatic diseases may come in that way.
Horticultural and other experts examine the plane from stem to tern to make sure no harmful insect pests have taken refuge on it and thus be in position to liberate destructive hordes in this country.
Man RECOGNIZES these things. He can deal with NATURAL enemies but he still is unable to isolate the germs of WAR. The lust for his brother's blood goes uncurbed. For proof see the dispatches from Spain.
But man had better learn AND QUICKLY. If a plane can fly from Moscow to the United States in one jump in 1937, other planes may be able to FLY HERE AND BACK AGAIN IN 1947.
They can fly from any one capital of Europe to any other and back again Now. That is why Europe is so jittery.
If necessity is the mother of invention the human race soon should find a way to rid itself of war. That is a REAL NECESSITY. The flight from Moscow to Vancouver merely brings the fact home to us.
