SENATOR IN PLACE OF NYE.—The
Nevada papers say the Senatorial
pot is beginning to boil already, al-
though the goose will not be cooked
till next Winter. Five knights are
reported as having "shied their cas-
tors into the ring" preparatory to
battle for the Senatorship. Nye
wants the place again. John P.
Jones wouldn't miss it, Minister De
Long has a hankering for it yet.
Governor Blasdel has hope, and
William Sharon is going for it. As
there are probably not more than
5,000 voting Republicans in the
State, the five candidates can see
them all in a few days and decide
the question who is the favorite
months in advance of the meeting of
the Legislature. But that will not
decide who will be Senator. Two
things will have to be attended to
after that—elect men to the Legisla-
ture who will stick, and secure those
who won't.—[Sacramento Union.
