Full Text

At a town meeting held at Providence on the 15th of January instant, measures were adopted in substance similar with those of Newport, published in our last, and a committee of correspondence chosen.

Immediately after the meeting was dissolved, they applied themselves to the discharge of their trust, by waiting on the several importers in that town, informing them of the resolutions which were entered into, and that if any of them had ordered tea to come next Spring, that they be desired to send counter orders immediately.—

The committee had the satisfaction to find that only one chest of tea had been ordered for that town next Spring, which was countermanded previous to the meeting.—

And the public are assured, from the best authority, that there have been but nine chests of tea imported into that town (on which the 3d. py. duty had been paid) since the memorable non-importation agreement.
