First Meeting of Education Board Slated for May 18

JUNEAU, (AP) - The State Board of Education has been called into session at Juneau May 18 for its first meeting, with a top item of business expected to be the nomination of a new commissioner.

Appointment of a $17,000-a-year Commissioner of Education will be made by the Governor from a list submitted by the board.

The new commissioner will become a member of the Governor's 12-man cabinet, and will succeed Don Dafoe who resigned during the last legislative session.

Board members include Robert Baldwin, of Nome.
