Sale of the Emancipator.
We copy the following from the Mass. Abolitionist and append a word or two in reply;
We learned some months since from a friend, who happened to be in the secret, that the plan was to get possession of the Emancipator, displace Mr. Leavitt, and put Mr. Rogers in his stead. Possibly the expectation of the place may have had something to do with the recent valor of Mr. Rogers in his glorification of Mr. Garrison, and his assaults upon new-organization.'
We also learned at New York, through another individual who happened to be in the secret, that the plan in its latest form, was, by a general rally, to carry the Eastern Pennsylvania, the National, and the New-Hampshire societies, and then unite the Pennsylvania Freeman, the Herald of Freedom, and the Emancipator, into a great national organ, second only to the 'grand organ' at Boston, and make N. P. Rogers, Esq., editor thereof. Hence the mission of Wright and Jackson to Eastern Pennsylvania just previous to the meeting there, and the general rally of the women's rights and non-government men and women on that occasion. Hence the general rally at New-York. Hence doubtless, a similar rally at Concord next week.'
These statements furnish important circumstantial evidence as to the real object for which the Emancipator was sold. They confirm our opinion, that the sale was not made for pecuniary relief, as a matter of necessity—but for the purpose of placing it beyond the reach of the Society! We may as well add—though it is a matter of no sort of consequence—that most of the matters stated as facts in the paragraphs above quoted are mere fictions.
