BOUND OVER TO CIRCUIT COURT

Trouble at Camp of Balkan Mining Company Gets Into Court.

Milek Romanovich and John Zager were bound over to the next term of court by Justice Joy on Wednesday, after they had a hearing on the charge of assault with intent to kill. The bond was fixed at $250 in each case. The complaining witness was Leman Kearney and all of the parties in the case live in the Rochford mining district. All three men are stockholders in the Balkan Company.

According to Mr. Kearney's story, the Balkan company men have been a source of trouble in the district for some time past and this is not the first time they have used harsh means in attempting to intimidate persons with whom they have had differences concerning interests in the ground. An old interest in the ground antedating the property before it passed into the possession of the Balkan company. There has been several misunderstandings over a number of matters and some of the stockholders, who are engaged in development work on the ground, have been trying to make it unpleasant for him. Some time ago one of them borrowed a saw and failed to return it. Kearney went to their camp to demand it and succeeded in getting possession of the tool. He was leaving the place when Romanovich followed him. Romanovich who was carrying a loaded rifle, commenced to abuse Kearney and kept the weapon pointed towards him, while Zager advanced toward him with an uplifted adz. Believing his life in danger and being unarmed, Kearney put up a line of talk that kept the man from using the rifle, but Romanovich was so nervous and excited that he kept breaking and throwing up the gun, while the conversation was in progress.
