FROM LAKE ONTARIO.

Again and again, we are disappointed in receiving news; for again the mail has failed to bring a letter from that quarter.—

From reflection and comparison of circumstances, it is proper we should state our impression, that the importance of the naval contest which was witnessed from Fort George has been much overrated. We should not be surprised if it should prove to have been nothing more than a running fight, a repetition of the scene which occurred on the same lake, a week or two ago, which the distance of the beholders has construed into a close engagement.
