REPUBLICAN MISFITS AGAIN.

We mentioned the above incidentally in a recent issue of the Signal simply as a comment on the conditions present in this locality, and in comparison with the abnormal conditions in more favored portions of the country, and to call attention to the advantage enjoyed by the manufacturing industries of the tariff protected east at the expense of the producing west. The Weiser World seems to take rather a jocular view of the situation, and insists that prosperity is all the rage hereabout, and boldly asserts that it (the World) is troubled with a bad attack of it. Evidently it is a sporadic case, and due to some local cause, and so far has no indications of becoming epidemic. The World states correctly that we have no manufacturing industries, and neither is it possible to have any under present conditions; and what degree of prosperity we do enjoy is not by reason of existing conditions but in spite of them. If employment can be so readily obtained, why not publish the fact and specify where and what. A few weeks work in the hay or harvest field cuts but little figure in the twelve months. The exorbitant railway tariffs distinctly does act as a bar to any industry in the manufacturing line and the tariff protected monopolies, with their dishonestly accumulated millions make the bar impassable. The whole evil can be traced to persistent class legislation for which the republican party is solely responsible and by reason of which the general advancement of the west is retarded; as to local conditions, the general reading public can judge from their own standpoint and we think it better to treat all questions affecting our local interests in a matter of fact way than to assume conditions as devoid of real truth as the ideal dreams of a fool's paradise.

The World very carelessly displays what its idea of prosperity is and it is about the same idea a horse would have of prosperity after eating a bale of hay. You can't make a small cranium take a large view of things under any circumstances, and a man peering through a crack in the wall cannot see as much of the world as one who looks out of the window or off the roof of the house. It is plain that the idea of prosperity in the individual is measured solely by his capacity to grasp possibilities and what should be, not what is. The World is no doubt well qualified to tell old timers what the true measure of our resources are and advise just what should be expected of them. It is undoubtedly better fitted than the natives to judge what ails our copper and other mineral industries, or rather the elements of industries. We may look for further enlightenment on what happened to the camp of Mineral, or why the Amalgamated Copper company and some transportation magnates in New York have successfully prevented the opening of Seven Devils. And it might incidentally explain why, with such resources behind it as no road of like contemplated length ever had, Mr. Hall cannot go into the financial circles and get money instantly for such an enterprise. Why should the best enterprises of the west drag a dreary course? Why are they not booming along all over the sunset land, giving jobs to job hunters?
