Gene Dinkel, Palmer High School graduate from Wasilla, has been named winner of the first Warren N. Cuddy Memorial Scholarship recently established by the Alaska Rural Rehabilitation Corporation. The $500 annual scholarship is for study at the University of Alaska.
According to James J. Hurley general manager of ARRC, the scholarship was established in memory of Warren N. Cuddy, a prominent Anchorage attorney and banker and for many years a member of the ARRC board. In advising University of Alaska President Ernest N. Patty of the scholarship, Hurley stated that the scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving member of the graduating class of either Palmer or Wasilla High Schools.
It is to be awarded on recommendation of a scholarship committee from those schools.
"I cannot tell you how encouraging it is to have this fine support given to the University of Alaska," President Patty informed the donors. "The support really strengthens our arm. I am a great believer that if we can keep our students here in Alaska we will not be exporting one of our finest products."
