A man named Ahrens, says the Spirit of the Times, has been arrested in New York on a very singular charge. Augustus Schmitz, on whose complaint the arrest was made, states that he was applied to about four months ago by the accused, who stated that he had the body of a woman concealed at his residence, and offered him one dollar a day to cut the flesh off the bones, which he undertook. The body was in a hogshead, perfectly naked, the eyes dug out, and the features cut and hacked in a horrible manner, evidently for the purpose of avoiding the identity of the body. While he was engaged in this human butchery, the wife of the accused said that the woman had been very rich: therefore he has every reason to believe they knew who the woman was. He further states that it took him two days and a half to finish it, and instead of paying $2 50, as agreed upon, he received only six shillings for his services in this disgusting and horrible affair.
