About four o'clock yesterday afternoon, Dr. Abram Claude, one of our most esteemed citizens, residing on State House Circle met with a very painful accident which will cost him the loss of his thumb. A cow that was feeding in the yard was approaching a flower bed and some fine shrubbery when he ran to drive her off. Taking hold of the end of a rope that was attached to the cow gave a sudden lurch, jerking the thumb nearly out of the socket. It is stated the injured thumb will have to be amputated. Doctor suffered considerable from the injury last night.
