FOR THE FREE PRESS.

Messrs. Editors:—It is due to Mr. John Lock Sr., to make an explanation in regard to six shares of stock advertised in his name to be sold by the Berryville & Charlestown Turnpike Co. Mr. Lock contends that he only agreed to subscribe upon certain conditions which he alleges have never arisen.

The stock is charged on the Book of the Company and so found by the present Directors, and is believed to be a part of that which was certified to the Board of Public Works as good and available. The Board were thus compelled to sell it; not only to raise as much money upon it as possible, but to give every one a title thereto.
