Cops Assaulted Man Wearing Red Shirt
YONKERS, N. Y., July 31.-"Yes, he's been discharged from the hospital. His condition was good when he left."
This was the information given by the Yonkers General Hospital regarding Mohamid Ali, 35, a Turkish window cleaner who last week was beaten into insensibility by police "because he wore a red shirt" and was taken by them to be a Communist.
The attack took place at the Tibbets Brook Park bus terminal in Yonkers when Ali tried to board a New York-bound bus with his wife, two children and his sister.
Eye-witnesses reported that three Westchester Parkway policemen slugged Ali into unconsciousness with blackjacks while one of them drew a pistol and threatened to shoot protesting spectators. Charges that Ali was beaten unmercifully were made by Mrs. Anna Seena of 996 Aldus St. and Mrs. Rose Einhorn of 1334 Intervale Ave., the Bronx.
The vicious attack upon Ali was blandly explained away by Police Chief William J. Byrne who said that the cops "figured he was a Communist on account of his red shirt."
Concluding his oily alibi, the chief said that Ali hurt himself when he fell down and bumped his head on a rock as he attacked the officers who merely acted in self-defense.
