Full Text

NEWPORT, July 29.
We hear from Nantucket, that last Monday e'enight arrived there the Whaling Sloop of which John Osborne was late Master:--Said Sloop had fell in with a Whale some time before between the Grand Bank and the Western-Islands, when said Master and four Hands took one Boat, and the Mate and other Hands took another, and went in pursuit of the Whale: after chasing for some Time, the Mate lost Sight of the others Boat and pursued the Whale till he thought there was danger of losing Sight of the Sloop, the Weather being pretty thick--so returned, expecting to find the Master and his Hands on board, but when he came up to the Vessel, could neither see nor hear any thing of them; he continued cruising thereabout all the ensuing Night, keeping a Fire in the Caboose and Lights in the Cabin, and all next Day, but found nothing of them: So that 'tis supposed the Master and all with him were lost by the Boat's being stove by a Whale or some other extraordinary Accident.
