Women Decide Upon Holiday Projects for Mexicans

Plans for Christmas programs and for other acts of neighborliness on behalf of the Mexican laborers brought into this county to help with valley crops, were discussed at the community tea Monday afternoon in the First Baptist church, sponsored by the women of the city churches.

Programs will be given at the various centers, the El Centro group confining its labors largely to the center in the city park. A box of cookies, games and magazines were collected to be distributed to the men, and a collection was taken to further the work among the migrant laborers which is done under the supervision of the Rev. Mr. Dwight Ramage.

At intervals during the afternoon a program was presented during which Capt. Willard E. Speares, who is in charge of these men, discussed their needs and problems.

The program included: an address of welcome by Mrs. H. R. Johnston; devotionals, Mrs. G. W. Thomas; presentation of projects, Mrs. J. L. DuBois, Sr.; violin solo, Paul David DuBois; vocal solo, Gloria Payne; instrumental trio, violin, flute, piano, Janet and Phyllis Little, Mrs. William North; violin solo, Janet Little; reading and vocal solo Mrs. Zenobia Payne, Miss Ruby Hubert, with Miss Jackie Gradington as accompanist.

A large attendance indicated the interest women are taking in the project.

Tea was served during the afternoon and the attractive setting for the affair was the work of Mrs. H. R. Johnston, Mrs. M. A. Wilson Mrs. C. W. Dyer, Mrs. W. D. Carey.
