NEW YORK-(SNS)-Coach Henry Arthur Kean's Kentucky State Industrial College Thoroughbreds, long a nationally known football quality, broke into the basketball hall of fame the past Sunday night, March 30, in Philadelphia when they tripped the much touted Long Island University cage team 39-35 before a wild-eyed hardwood gallery which looked on in disbelief.
The Long Island team had an all-white combination in the game, its star colored player, Dollie King, being ill with an attack of influenza and not seeing action. The celebrated Blackbirds, holders of the national collegiate title, could not cope with Kentucky State's brilliant defense which tied its biggest point-getters, Torgoff and Bromberg, into knots.
LIU WINS SERIES
The two teams met again Friday night March 31, here and Long Island crack combination piloted by Clair Bee still found a tartar in Kentucky State's colorful guard, Farrow, who after scoring 17 points in the initial contest, garnered 10 more in his team's losing performance.
