Youths Flee Home, Wound Truck Driver

Billy the Kid had nothing on these lads!

The late youthful badman of the west made a habit of holding up stage coaches and trains.

These two were apprehended by Undersheriff Harley Ensign early this morning after they attempted to hold up a large packing company truck, wounding the driver.

The boys, 12 and 14 years of age, admitted to Ensign that they fled from a Fair Haven orphans home Sunday and were making their way to Detroit on foot when they fired several shots with B. B. guns through the side window of the truck near Gratiot and Hall road.

The shattered glass cut the driver, O. E. Stiers, of Detroit, about the right side of the face.

Ensign took the boys into custody after he found them arguing with Stiers near the scene of the "holdup" at about 6:30 o'clock.

They carried two cigar boxes which contained about $15 in pennies, several packages of cigarettes and ten boxes of B.B. shot for their two guns.

Investigation disclosed that approximately $30 was missing from the Fair Haven home.

They were turned over to state police and returned to Fair Haven.
