By Letters from Montreal we are informed, that on Monday the 11th Instant, about 10 o'Clock in the Evening, a dreadful Fire broke out there, in one Mr. Feason's House, near St. Lawrence Port, which continued till about five o'Clock next Morning, & consumed most of the Houses on both Sides from thence to the Jesuits Garden, and then all along down to the Chateau Vaudreuil, the Stables and Out houses of which were consumed, and the main Street from thence as far as Mr. Doble's House, which is saved. As near as can be guessed, between 80 & 100 Houses are burnt; and it was with the greatest Difficulty the rest of the Town was saved the Wind being very high.
April 28. The following are the Names of the English Inhabitants whose Houses were burnt at the Fire at Montreal, viz. Dr. Robertson, Lazarus David, John Crozier, Matthew Wade, Holmes & Morrison, Jonas Desaultes,--n--Military Provost.
The major Part of the People, we hear, saved most of their Effects from the Fire--we have not heard of any Persons being killed or wounded.
