Full Text

Nonsense in South Carolina.

A correspondent of the Charleston Mercury closes a communication in the following bombastic style:

"Then let us make the issue in California. Some may consider the course recommended rash: but what is more rash than a dissolution of the Union? Let California be the theatre of action instead of the old States. Some may say it smells too strong of gunpowder. To such I say, go to the graves of your Butler and your Huger, your Hampton and your Pinckney, your Rutledge and your Dickinson, invoke the shades of those departed brave Palmettos! Then, I know, the watchword will be, 'Clean up your OLD MUSKET.'"
