"It has passed into a proverb, that the Democratic Party of this State has never been defeated twice in succession." We take the above paragraph from the late beautiful address of the Democratic State Central Committee of Pennsylvania. Let it encourage the indomitable, unflinching democracy of that mighty State, to stand by their arms for the next great battle. It is now close upon them. They have intrigues and stratagems, plots and frauds, to meet, and they will be found thick and clustering throughout every nook and corner of that powerful Commonwealth. Money will flow from the whigs like water. Eastern whig capitalists have entered the arena; and how else, but in the strong nerve of honest freemen, can this flood of corruption be arrested in its guilty course? Put forth all your energies, friends. Embolden every honest democratic laborer to march up to the polls with firmness. If the whig threatenings are continued—that they shall be discharged, and their wages stopped, if they will not yield to their behests and become turncoats and slaves—let them be reminded that the day of federal coercion is nearly past; that though temporarily injured by the monarchical money power, they will soon be released from the devouring jaws of the monster now preying upon their rights and liberties. A day of retributive justice is in reserve for all such villainy, and a storm of public indignation will soon overtake the guilty authors.
