Sewardites Show Great Interest In Polio Nursing Classes

Mrs. Florence Aylen, instructor in poliomyelitis nursing care, stated the response of Seward women to the classes held last Thursday and Friday was unusually good. More people attended the course in Seward where there is no polio, than in Anchorage, where the disease is epidemic--in ratio with the population, according to Mrs. Aylen.

Two classes were held each day, afternoon and evening on Thursday and repeated on Friday, giving everyone a chance to take advantage of the entire course.

The Institute was sponsored by National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, Seward Red Cross Chapter, and the Seward Registered Nurses' Association.

Materials, such as splints, etc., made locally for the class use, will be donated to the Foundation by Red Cross Chapter for future use here.

All expenses of Mrs. Aylen's visit were defrayed by the Polio Fund in Seward.

Sponsors wish to thank the hospital for use of the bed and equipment, and all other persons who contributed so generously of time and added supplies.

Mrs. Wm. Bauer, secretary of the local Red Cross Chapter, entertained Mrs. Aylen on the afternoon of her arrival. The Aylens will return in January to make their home in Seward.
