Captain Steuart in a Ship from Philadelphia, arrived at Bristol, having at Sea, in Lat. 37. 18. Long. 58 50, met with the Brig Polly, Ebenezer Woodbury, late Commander, from South-Carolina bound to Rhode Island. On the 17th of February the Brig met with a Gale of Wind, in which she lost her Bowprit, Foremast, Maintopmast, Booms, Boats, and larboard Gunnel stoved in and washed away, as were likewise the Captain, Mate, and two Men. Three Men and a Boy, (viz. Benjamin Cozens, John Calendar, Samuel Sheffield, and John Meekins,) were taken out of the Wreck, which is supposed went soon to the Bottom. Two of the above Men arrived here in Capt. Allen. One of the Men washed over board was Mr. William Stoddard, Son to William Stoddard, Esq; of this Town, who was a Passenger on board, and was on his return home, having served in his Majesty's Navy the most of the last War.
