An editorial in the Independent Chronicle criticizes the Reverend Historian of Ry as a violent opponent of the state Constitution, dismissed Chaplain for abusing the General Court, accuser of Congress tyranny, and obstructer of federal revenue powers. Full Text

The Reverend Historian, of Ry, is characterised, in the Independent Chronicle, as follows— "We have seen him a violent party man, against the proposed and present Constitution of this State: we have seen him dismissed by the General Court, from being their Chaplain, because of his virulent abuse of their proceedings; we have seen him frantic, for a long time together, against the requisitions of Congress, filling every paper with suggestions of tyranny against that honourable Body; we have seen him on the road to Rhode-Island and Philadelphia, to prevent Congress from possessing the powers of raising a revenue to pay the national debt. Now, to see the people of this State receiving the author's own assertion alone, as evidence of his having had access to the secret journals of Congress, and the Cabinet of General Washington: and to see them become subscribers to his book, is astonishing; and yet he has obtained more than forty subscribers."
