To Christmas Eve In Last Effort
GOOD RESPONSE HAS BEEN SHOWN To Care For All In Distress; Toys And Clothes Received
Two days hence is Christmas and the sparkle and excitement of the season fills the county homes, the streets and schools, where children wait for the holidays.
The happy expectance is present in even the poorest shacks in the countryside and on mountainside, where Santa Claus is awaited to transform drabness into tinselled delight. and the poverty that shadows children into the riches of toys. candy and fruit.
There probably isn't a child in Clarke county who isn't sure Santa Claus will come on Christmas Eve with a pack full of playthings to delight their hearts and bring happiness to their mothers and fathers.
These children believe in Santa Claus, and rightly so.
But hovering in uneasy menace over the trusting expectancy of the county's childhood is a shadow of uncertainty. It is the threat that The Clarke Courier Christmas Fund can't keep faith with the children who believe in the Merriest of Saints, and the older people who believe in The Fund.
When the week started the threat of failure--with its disaster in childish heartbreak, the bitterness of helpless parents who see their children disappointed--loomed real.
There are fifteen families The Courier Fund will strive to care for. The majority of them are cared for at the present, but there is still need for additional funds to provide happiness to the others.
Many county people have been more than generous in contributing to the Fund. Many have sent to this office a number of toys and clothes.
As has been stated before, the money will be used to make purchase of additional toys and clothing. all of which, including the distribution of such. will be made by Miss Branch Grove. Clarke County Visiting Nurse.
As Christmas draws near, The Courier is anxious for this last appeal to be heard and answered by those who have not already made their contributions.
The campaign will close on Christmas Eve.
