Atlanta's School Board
The Citizens Committee on Public Education held its second enthusiastic meeting at the Butler Street YMCA with Chairman E. M. Martin presiding. More than a Score of Negroes, representing civic, religious and social organizations, attended to pool their efforts in the mass appeal for Improvement of educational facilities for the Negro youth of Atlanta.
Mrs. Birdie Wallace, President of the Booker T. Washington P-TA reported the results of the appeal to the Board of Education on December 12, and reminded the citizens that this was only the beginning of our fight and we must see it through to the end.
C. L. Harper pointed out the necessity for each organization to have one hundred per cent registration within their various clubs.
J. R. Henderson pointed out the great support this issue had received from the press. He said, "Never before has the press of this city taken such a positive stand on any similar issue and it was our duty to encourage this fine support."
The group learned that speakers are available to all organizations who wish a thorough interpretation of the study to its members. This is the real needs of our schools to the education program which will outline the real needs of our schools to the Atlanta public. Other plans of the community education were also announced.
All organizations pledged their financial support to such a worthy cause and the group plans to meet again after the January meeting of the Board of Education.
