The board will be detained some time on rivers Ohio and Mississippi, making a partial survey preparatory, we presume, to one more complete at some future day. On the arrival of the board in this country, they will proceed forthwith to parcel out such parts of our sea coast as may demand the immediate attention of the topographical department.
A topographical engineer with assistants are now on their way to this quarter. They are to commence with the Bay of Mobile, of which they are required to make a minute survey, with a view of putting to rest the questions so long contested; whether it is necessary to fortify that entrance. After which they will proceed to the survey of our bay. The St. Joseph, &c. through the whole southern coast of Florida.
We congratulate our countrymen on this good news, and hope it may be the harbinger of much more. We are well assured, that the United States executive will do every thing in their power for us but how far congress may be disposed to go, tis necessarily doubtful; as it is always possible that some hobby will be started, on which they'll ride out their session—regardless of what they do, as of what they ought to do—witness two memorable sessions; the Seminole campaign and the Missouri question.—Floridian.
